Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday is Set for August 8–9, 2026
The Commonwealth has officially announced the dates for this year’s Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday. The tax-free weekend will take place on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, 2026.
What Qualifies for the Tax Exemption
Most retail items priced at $2,500 or less per item will be exempt from Massachusetts sales tax when purchased for personal use.
- The $2,500 limit applies per item
- Multiple qualifying items may be purchased tax-free
- Online purchases qualify if completed during the weekend
What Does Not Qualify
- Motor vehicles and motorboats
- Meals and prepared food
- Alcoholic beverages
- Tobacco and marijuana products
- Utilities and telecommunications services
- Any single item priced over $2,500
