Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday is Set for August 8–9, 2026

The Commonwealth has officially announced the dates for this year’s Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday. The tax-free weekend will take place on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, 2026.

What Qualifies for the Tax Exemption

Most retail items priced at $2,500 or less per item will be exempt from Massachusetts sales tax when purchased for personal use.

  • The $2,500 limit applies per item
  • Multiple qualifying items may be purchased tax-free
  • Online purchases qualify if completed during the weekend

What Does Not Qualify

  • Motor vehicles and motorboats
  • Meals and prepared food
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tobacco and marijuana products
